Admission Process

We're looking for a few good men and women.

We invite everyone who is interested in our program to come and visit with us, sit in on a class, and meet our existing students. Really.

Berkeley Digital is not a formal institution, it's an informal institution. We do not do "Open Houses". Too formal.

So if you're interested in us, we are interested in you. Just give us a call and we can arrange a tour for you, and you can sit in on a class and speak with our current students, if you would like.

We can send you a class schedule so you can see which classes might match your availability for a visit.

The visit begins an interview process which helps the school evaluate if the candidate is a good fit for the Berkeley Digital student body.

The admissions process is essentially an audition process.

Students are interviewed by the school director, and are invited to sit in on classes and speak with existing students, as part of a process of determining if the candidate is a good fit for the culture of BDFI.

The curriculum of BDFI is written for people who have had no prior film experience.

There are no prerequisites for the program, but people who have had prior film and editing classes do have a good start. We teach everything from the beginning; we assume no prior production knowledge.

Our requirements for acceptance are a passion for learning how to make films with integrity in the film business, and a genuine willingness to collaborate with others.

If physical distance proscribes a live visit, the interview will be conducted on the telephone, and if the candidate seems like a good match for the program, they will be invited to travel out to the school for a live interview.
